Download this program called Jettison for mac. You can tell it to not eject your drives when you close your lid (sleep). I want to also mention I am on a 17″ Macbook Pro late 2011 model running OSX Lion. This solution has been glorious!! I’ve been scouring the internet forever. I hope this finds your way in the right hands.
